Medicines which has been banned abroad but sold in India


Some of the medicines should banned in India immediately because those are highly risky. In many countries those are already banned.

List of the medicines:
  • SolvinCold
  • Thioril
  • Tegibs
  • Nimulid suspension
  • Leptos
  • Windia
Above medicines are labeled risky in some countries but available in India…….


  
Ø  SolvinCold

Generic active Ingredient:  Phenylpropanolamine (PPA)
Pharmacological action: Decongestant used to relieve symptoms of cold.
Action abroad: US FDA seeks removal of PPA from all drugs in November 2000, Health Canada withdraws drugs with PPA in March 2001.

Reason: Increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke.

Ø Thioril

Generic active Ingredient:  Thioridazine
Pharmacological action: Anti-psychotic drug used in schizophrenia.
Action abroad: Voluntary worldwide discontinuation by original manufacturer in June 2005.

Reason: Increased risk of life-threatening heart rhythm changes.

Ø   Ø Tegibs

Generic active Ingredient:  Tegaserod
Pharmacological action: Irritable bowel syndrome and constipation therapy.
Action abroad: US FDA seeks suspension of sales in March 2007.

Reason: Increased risk of heart attack, stroke, unstable angina.


      Ø Nimulid suspension

Generic active Ingredient:  Leptos
Pharmacological action: Anti-obesity therapy.
Action abroad: The European Medicines Agency suspends sale of all drugs containing sibutramine in August 2010. US FDA improses restrictions so that it is not used on patients with any of several cardiovascular conditions.

Reason: Increased risk of cardiovascular events.

Ø   Ø Windia

Generic active Ingredient:  Rosiglitazone
Pharmacological action: Anti-diabetes therapy.
Action abroad: European Medicines Agency bans drug. US FDA imposes the restriction that it be used only in patients who cannot control diabetes with any other drug.

Reason: Increase risk of heart attacks.

Peoples are highly recommended for not to taking or buying these medicines and World Health Organization (WHO) should take care of this matter because its very risky for general people of India.
